Charles and Cheryl DeBerry, along with other members of their family, have been vegetable farming since 1998. They sell tomatoes, peppers, green beans, cucumbers, squash, lettuce, greens, onions, broccoli, cauliflower, sweet corn, fresh basil, watermelons, cantaloupes, strawberries, and much more. In the fall, they have pumpkins, ornamental corn, and gourds. You can buy these at local farmers markets or through their vegetable subscription service in the Oakland area. At the farmers markets, as well as at some specialty food stores in the area, you can also purchase their own brand of hot pepper jelly and mild salsa.
"We're a small, family farm in the mountains of extreme western Maryland. We are a very low-input farm which doesn't use any herbicides at all, and use mostly organic methods of insect and weed control throughout the gardens. We are, however, not certified organic, and will use an over-the-counter insecticide as a last resort if we see we'll lose a crop to the little buggers. We have a small child on the farm, and we won't do anything that we feel would harm our precious little girl."
You can also find DeBerry Farm at the Oakland Farmers' Market.
