What we sell at the market:
Golden Blue Moon Farm specializes in organic Heirloom Tomatoes. We have the over 30
varieties of Heirloom tomatoes which covers the entire spectrum of size color and taste.
Heirloom Tomatoes are old fashioned tomatoes that have been grown for generations.
You can save the seeds and replant the next year. They are _*not** *_ hybrid tomatoes
which are bred for long shelf life _*not*_ taste. Take a step back and experience the way
tomatoes are used to taste. We have a large selection of American (especially West
Virginia) and European Heirloom Tomatoes. Three of the varieties we grow and sell are
local varieties. Family members in the area saved the seeds and gave them to Golden
Blue Moon Farm to reestablish these wonderful tomatoes. All our plants are grown in
house (literally) using organic seeds. The plants we sell are hardened off in 1 gallon pots
and are at least 18" tall with fully developed root balls.
We will be at the market:
We are at market during planting season selling a large variety of 1 gallon potted tomato
plants. When tomatoes are ready (mother nature decides this) we sell our organic
tomatoes. Red, green, yellow, striped, and black, what ever your taste, if you love tomatoes
we have one to satisfy your palate. Visit us at the Morgantown Farmers Market and relive
the tomato eating experience the way it should be.
Information about our farm/business:
This is Golden Blue Moon's 4th year at the market. We have been growing Heirloom
Tomatoes for over 7 years. Raised bed planting allows us to plant early. Golden Blue
Moon is a small family farm in Morgantown, WV. Karen has been a teacher for 30 years
and currently teaches 5th at Cheat Lake Middle School. Michael is a full time farmer and
retired teacher and physiologist. We stumbled in to Heirloom Tomatoes accidentally. One
summer we decided to find out what all the Heirloom fuss was about and started a few
Brandywine and Rose plants. We never went back to Hybrid tomatoes. We compost and
use organic methods. Our love of farming and the excellent supervision of our golden
retrievers (Skye and Sadie) enables us to produce wonderful tasting tomatoes. All our
tomatoes are taste tested by our Goldens.
